Approximately 3 years ago, I worked with Jeff to renew our lease for our existing office space. While it might seem a “no-brainer” and an easy thing to do, it wasn’t. The landlord updated the renewal lease and there were clauses from the original lease that were onerous. Upon review and guidance from Jeff, there were items that needed to reflect what our growing needs were, and clauses that we took out. We renewed for another 4 years with a better lease.

My team’s happiness was paramount to the space we would select. We also required demo rooms to train many teachers on-line as we perfected our remote training model for schools and districts across North America. Being highly-cost sensitive coming from the education marketplace, we had a trailing lease obligation that had to be factored into a new lease too.
Moreover, another lease in another country had to be resolved prior to our search to begin. These requirements made it difficult to start looking and to find the perfect space. And, with one more complicating factor of a Global Head Office that was on the other side of the world. There were new requirements and misunderstandings popping up over the course of our search for new space that spanned 1 full year.
The CORE team patiently and politely assisted us over the course of our ever-changing requirements. Jeff’s style was one of helping, and not just getting a ‘deal’ done. Lori listened carefully to what was important, and she observed our culture to really understand our needs. I had to have the ‘perfect space’ and there was a lot of pressure to get this right! The good news is that Lori was able to read between the lines of what we were saying, and was able to convert those requirements into our newly signed lease agreement.
We grew from 1742 sq. ft. to an amazing 6408 sq. ft. We are very happy with the outcome. We know that we had complex and ever-changing requirements. Ongoing and excellent communications were very important to us to lessen our stress and ensure our needs were being met. The ‘extras’ including 2 fridges and a dishwasher were built into the lease. An aggressive timeframe of completing a full demolition, design and rebuild of the space was facilitated by CORE to make our move easy. Our cost considerations were negotiated through CORE to the landlord. We got a deal that worked for our business.
